And the Cows Lay Down

I was blessed to have been present in the path of a total solar eclipse. During the total portion, there was cloud cover, but I was able to glimpse the moon concealing the sun and I saw a planet brighten the darkened sky. The birds stopped singing and the tree frogs began croaking along with the chirping crickets. The cows in the pastures laid down. The temperature noticeably dropped. Crescent shadows were cast giving an eerie lighting effect.

While I experienced the great solar eclipse of 2018 my mind gave remembrance to a day long ago when it became dark, the day our Savior died leaving this world. The saddest day for mankind was also a day of praise and gratitude for His loving sacrifice. He quietly as a martyr atoned for our sins with His blood. So looking up to the Heavens viewing the eclipse, I remembered and gave thanks to God for His Son. So as we enter the Easter Season let’s never forget this day.

And the Cows Lay Down

Darkness came quietly in the middle of the day
Stillness, speechless, no words known to say
Eyes looking up to see star lit celestial skies
Contemplating is there some reason why?

Frozen memories of the past from a different time
When Heaven cried, when blackness gave the sign
Never forget, remember, a reminder for us all
The day mankind had its deepest heinous fall

When God made man died with one breathless mournful sigh
Selflessly He left this world to lift us high
Forgive them Father words of His that permanently last
Our future destinies He did dutifully with passion cast

His unspoken pain and sealed tears still remain
For all of us, sinners, He sacrificially came
The lamb of God, He died to fulfill His love
So on our knees we give thanks to Him above

For He gave Himself to right all our wrongs
Then the birds ceased singing their songs
And the cows lay down
To honor our Savior on the day we were no longer lost, but found

Amen

"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun." Psalm 19:1-4

"Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.'” Luke 23:34a

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16

"For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." Romans 1:20
