Connection
God created us to be in relationship with others as we are created in His image. The Holy Trinity is relational; it is a union of love and community. This need for a relationship with God and others is built into our very being and fiber.
I wrote the poem, "Connection," because I believe that connecting with God and others is our core meaning and purpose in life. John Donne wrote, "No man is an island, entire itself. Every man is a piece of the continent; a part of the main...." We were meant to love and be loved. Let us turn towards God and embrace that which He created us to be, fully connected to others and to Him.
Connection
What gives us life and breath is our connection to others
It defines our humanness, loving one another
It stirs movement within our souls and being
It is what it means for our hearts to be deeply seeing
Connection is a risky, precarious notion
Timing and fate can halt with a memory as the lone token
Hurt and loss may be the binding cost
Then fractured lives scattered can be lost
What could have been, would or should have been
To replay mistaken actions all over and again
Remains a drifting, imaginary thought
Leaves hearts hurting and distraught
Created stories play in our hazy dreams
Nothing can be changed with trickery or schemes
Reality is relationships, all lost and torn
What to face remains rejection and scorn
But our every cell longs for intimate union
Connection is about community, commitment, and communion
We were made to connect with deep bond
It so much more than just feelings of being fond
Connection expects transparency, nothing false
Openness and truth becomes it all
Then trust and closeness can prevail
But, vulnerability can't be prevented to no avail
Connection gives our lives promise and meaning
It is what keeps us breathing and hearts beating
It is for a glimmer of significance we search and seek
Then our future can become hopeful, not bleak
It is connection that defines our humanity
Without it, can lead mankind to insanity
God made us this way in His image
Otherwise, this journey would be a strange, lone pilgrimage
