Reflections in a Mirrored Glass
Outside appearances are so deceiving. But, it's in our eyes that God's light and love shines out for the world to see. I wrote this poem as I was thinking on the differences of people's outside looks compared to how they are on the inside.
Appearances can certainly deceive others, but we can never deceive our God. He knows our hearts and true motivations. So never be quick to judge people. Instead, look for their shining light.
Reflections in a Mirrored Glass
I see the reflection in the mirrored glass
What I see on the surface will not last
But I see a child of wonder within,
Who remains my closest trusted friend
But it is He who knows me in and out
And loves me as I am, without a doubt
He accepts me with all my mistakes
Just as He has felt all my painful heartbreaks
God, You see my gentle kind face
While knowing all my sin and disgrace
I still remain your precious child
You continue to love me someway somehow
You keep teaching me and I keep learning
All the while I am becoming more discerning
One day I hope to be
The person you planned and wanted for me
On the outside others may perceive
Someone that looks confident and carefree
But, does the inner light shine out
It is all glory to God I want to shout
Not false perceptions, as looks can deceive
They will never lead me to salvation or reprieve
It's God's love that must overflow
From the inside out for others to know
Don't judge with a glance when we see each other
Because it is about loving and caring for one another
Let our hearts be a light for all the world to see
That is God's desire and plan for you and me
We may not understand, while on earth we live
But in the dark valleys, all our trust to God we must give
So in the mirrored reflections we only see partly
For now we see through the glass darkly

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

"For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known."

"And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit."
