The Call of the Sea
The sea has an allure that beckons and calls us. Its power and might are reminiscent of God's strength. Its tranquility can soothe us with peace, calm, and comfort, such that can only be from God. This poem is about God's amazing creation, the Sea, which mesmerizes and entices us with its beauty and mystery as it gives Glory to God.
The Call of the Sea
There is this allure and call of the sea
It has always been throughout the many centuries
As Odysseus heard the sirens' luring song
In us it's the draw to our origin that we long
It's an ancestral legacy, a primordial instinct
Within us, there lies this deep covenant link
Before our breath, in water we lived
It is the sea, to us life it gives
In the beginning the world was covered by the sea
The Holy Spirit hovered over it in stillness and mystery
It began a new beginning with Noah in Biblical history
When God marked His Promise with a rainbow for us to always see
It allows us to roam the world and be free
As Christ gives us freedom to be you and me
Its salty water is mighty, strong, and can cure
Like God it will also conquer, envelop, and endure
We feel its peace and calm as it gives us rest
Then its destructive powers put our faith to test
The Living Waters will remove all God's scorn
In baptism by water, we are renewed and reborn
It has remained unchanged through all the years
It is constant like God who removes all our fears
The sea invites us to join, as does our Creator in one unity
This longing is to share with God in loving eternal community
