The Way Back
Sometimes we inadvertently and without full intention get lost. We stray from God, turning away from Him. We choose to indulge our own wants and desires for short-lived gratification. We stray off course and may find we don't know the way back.
I wrote this poem to acknowledge how, in our humanness, we can easily slip and find ourselves lost. But, the way back is always present when we turn with intentionality towards God with repentance and prayer. We can find our way back with God's help.
The Way Back
Sometimes we get lost and need to find the way back
Somehow or other we have gone off track
It can happen so quick, so very fast
If not careful it may persist, always last
A few slips, small white lies
Can have us asking ourselves why
Maybe things we failed to mention
But we didn't have any real intention
Daily surrenders, little mistakes
Move us from God, keep us awake
We say just the mind's idea with no action
They can persist, sin by a mere fraction
Desires, covets, passions, wants
These are not innocent, simple thoughts
They take us off our straight course and path
Our grim fate may then be forever cast
Looming temptation specters may lead us into a dark shadow
For the way into the Light is not broad, but narrow
Behaviors are derived from emotions and feelings
Reflections of our hearts, our true beings
How to climb out of this deep dark hole
Before our hearts it forever molds
Repentance is the first step taken
Otherwise our souls will be lost, forsaken
To the ground on our knees looking up
Prayer is what does and can interrupt
Forgiveness from God will make us whole
Preventing sin from taking its complete hold
Conversations and time with God are needed
To His plan we must be fully conceded
Intentionality with effort to do His will
Practice and practice to hone this skill
We need His help, His love, His strength
Be committed to go the complete length
We cannot do this by ourselves alone
He will see our souls when we stand before His throne
But our God is for us not against us
Believe this to our core, we must
Put Him first, above everything and all
Then we can find our way back, hearing His call
