You Walked Away
The month of February with Valentine's Day is for love and lovers. But, there is another side of love, heartbreak and unrequited love. If anyone has ever loved, at some point it will bring hurt and disappointment when we suffer its loss.
When we suffer a broken heart with no options to regain our love object, how do we survive when our hearts have been ripped from our bodies? By turning to the Source of love. God is the only one who can soften and assuage the pain. He will never forsake us, as all human relationships will eventually bring disappointment because we are imperfective human beings. The emptiness within can never be fully filled with human love, but only God's love will fill and satisfy us completely.
I wrote this poem with these thoughts in mind.
You Walked Away
You walked away
Although I begged you to stay
You left me in shambles with no words left to say
My heart was shattered, torn, left bleeding
It was only you that I was needing
I was desperate, frantic, forced into conceding
How to survive and go on breathing?
When my heart wants to just stop beating
This despair has left me broken and seething
Alone again, forlorn again
By myself to aimlessly roam again
To find my way, some way back home again
Lost without a compass or any direction
There can be no reprieve or any concession
To find a moment's relief I would give all my possessions
So where do I seek my comfort and hope to once again sing?
It is only God who can remove this bitter, biting sting
It is only He, for me solace He brings
So even though you walked away
And I begged you to stay
