The Past is Never Very Far Away

When we run from feeling our pain, it is only temporary relief; it is never a solution because the pain still remains within us. It is something that must be felt and processed. The pain of loss and grief must be experienced and felt. Otherwise it remains with us and will show up at some point in time as symptoms- psychological or physical. An event can trigger feelings from the past to surface because they were never allowed to be recognized and processed. We may think we left the past behind us, but all of a sudden it is with us again. It will remain until it can be discarded, which takes effort, work, and courage because it can be a painful process of expression. There is a time and a season to recognize, experience and feel whatever we carry from the past. Then it can be let go and released back to the past from where it came from and stay there. It then carries no power over us and sets us free.

The Past is Never Very Far Away

The past is never very far away
If not invited in, then it will stay

The pain and sorrow of the past
Can hover near and persistently last

Love is the bridge, the segue
This healing force opens the way

Pain leads to healing, goes hand in hand
Then stable, on our feet, is where we can land

To live and breathe down under the deep
Is the place where blessings are found to keep

So don't run away from your fear
Feel the grief and sorrow draw them near

Slowly move through the suffering and the pain
Don't avoid it, then you will find the gain

Even the dark can have its gifts
Silver linings can be revealed when it lifts

The denied pain and sorrow living beneath your skin
Only torments and stifles your growth within

When unresolved and not recognized
It keeps you living and pretending a lie

The past will always show up uninvited
Taking you off guard if you're not farsighted

Unpack your baggage, leave it behind
This is the way to peace, you will find

The past is never very far away
Undivulged pain allows it to stay

There is a time for sorrow with its own season
In your life it has a purpose and reason

So put the past, back in the past
Breathe through the pain knowing it will not last
